Maine artists Diana Baumbach and Augusta Sparks respond to the sparse, stark beauty of Maine winter, from windswept blueberry barrens to frigid ocean vistas. Reflecting on such Bare Places, the title of their exhibition, prompts them to look inward, to the textures and materials of the home, as well as the body itself. In works conjured from primal materials like wood, fur, fiber, and wax, subtle notes of sensuality appear. Amidst the austerity of winter there is an invitation to revel in the supple warmth of bare skin.
