Eileen Ryan

Artist Bio

Eileen Ryan is an interdisciplinary artist based in New England. She explores scientific, spiritual, and ecological issues through an experimental practice that is informed by both research and playful speculation. Eileen’s installations, paintings and performances have been exhibited across New England at artistic and scientific institutions, as well as internationally in Japan and Portugal. She was one of the inaugural cohort of artists in residence for MEAR. Her Spiritual Microbiomes project—in which she cultures samples of sacred water from sites across the world, from the Vatican to Shinto shrines in Japan—embodies her interdisciplinary practice. She aims to “tell a story that lives somewhere between the spiritual and the scientific—the why, how and who—but also the what if.” Read more about her practice in a recent interview for APRIL: The Commons.
