Yvonne Maiden
Artist Bio
Yvonne Maiden, a native of the Midwest, pursued her fine arts education at the University of Michigan and the China (Zhejiang) Academy of Fine Arts as an undergraduate. She later earned her MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute.
Maiden's paintings and sculptures explore themes of personal and collective mythology, contemplating human strengths and vulnerability. Her distinctive muted palette often evokes a world coming into being, or one visible through veiled memory…softened yet powerful. Her work is included in numerous private and public collections, notably the Lucile Packard Collection at Stanford University. Maiden has been featured in publications such as The San Francisco Chronicle, Artweek Magazine, and various Maine publications. Maiden has additionally practiced as an art therapist in Maine for several years.
Her recent solo exhibition, Burdens of the Bird at The Parsonage, showcases her interest in combining figuration with abstract, gestural elements. She is increasingly experimenting with installations that integrate her paintings and sculptures to create a cohesive dialogue.
Yvonne lives in Portland, Maine, with her husband David.
